What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount is there to help those who are struggling to keep up with their energy payments. Customers on the scheme will get a one-off, annual discount of £140 (inclusive of VAT) on their electricity bill. It’s a scheme, supported by the government and energy suppliers.
Am I eligible for the Warm Home Discount?
There are 2 main groups of people who will qualify for the Warm Home Discount:
- The Core Group is automatically entitled to receive the WHD. If this is you, you should receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) who'll arrange for your discount to be made automatically.
- The Broader Group is entitled to the discount if you have a low income and receive certain benefits like Income Support.
How to apply for the Warm Home Discount?
If you’re in the Core Group you don’t have to do a thing, you will receive a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming your status and they will arrange for the discount to be applied automatically
If you’re in the Broader Group, applications have closed for 2020/21. You can apply again in the summer.
Do I need to apply for the Warm Home Discount scheme every year?
If you are in the Broader Group you need to reapply each year. If you are in the Core Group and you are still eligible, this will be automatically taken care for you via the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
How will I find out if my Warm Home Discount application has been successful?
You will either receive confirmation as part of completing the application or a confirmation by email or in writing.
When is the Warm Home Discount paid? How will I receive it?
If you applied for the 2020/2021 scheme, the discount of £140 (inclusive of VAT) should be applied to your electricity account by the end of March 2021. In some instances, it is possible that it might not appear on your bill until May 2021. If you believe the discount hasn’t been applied by the time you get your May 2021 bill, then please contact us to check.
